{Wacky Wednesday} Organizing and using a “jail”

{picture from photobucket – not my actual box – but very representative of it!}

The new year always makes me want to organize more, better, again, etc.  Does it do that do you?

Something I just started this year was I created a “jail” basically a place to put everything I think I want to get rid of but am not ready to take the plunge yet.  For instance – At the beginning of January I reorganized my utensil drawer in my kitchen. We have more kitchen tools and gadgets than anyone could possibly need – and I am beginning to realize that (finally)!  So I took the things I thought we were not using and put them in a box in the garage – it has been over a month since I did this, and I have only gone out to get one item from the box. The rest is going to goodwill the next time we go.

I am going to do this with some digital supplies as well as they seem to multiply and I don’t go back in to use them later.

Want to get something organized?  Here are a few resources from around the web that might help you:

Or if you are someone who likes to read eBooks – I liked this one – Tell Your Time from Amy Lynn Andrews

{Wacky Wednesday} World Wide Web Tip

f3

Do people still call it the World Wide Web anymore? I think it is now just internet! Anyway I have a little tip that I learned recently that has changed the way I read blogs – especially when someone has pinned something on Pinterest to the whole blog and not just the one post.

Did you know you can…

Use F3 to search a webpage.  When you are on a webpage you can press F3 and it will pull up a dialog box that allows you to search that page.  This is great for everything from long webpages to specific items you are looking for, anything really.

Go ahead, you know you want to… try it out right now. neat huh.

Packing Checklists... work for me.

I have a checklist of anything I might need to bring to go on vacation, camping etc. When we are getting ready I delete the things not necessary- like snow bibs for Disneyland. Then print.

Here is what the checklist I just printed looks like:

Checklist

Checklist2

Often when I am packing I think of something else and just write it down on there as well. I save the checklist after packing so I can add those handwritten things on my master checklist. It works great- and allows me to start packing early as I can check it off once it is in the suitcase.

If anyone would like my master checklist I would be happy to send it to you - just leave me a comment.

Personalized Gifts

Last year for all the kids in the family for their birthday we got them a towel personalized with their name on them. I got the towels in December at Costco and took them to an embroidery person here in town. I had them all back and waiting for their birthday to come around. Everyone got the same thing - we spent the same for them and I didn't have to do any thinking or rushing around finding them a gift. Kids LOVE to get things with their name on them.

Here is a picture of the towels for our girls.

For this year we have not yet chose what we are going to get personalized - we considered tote bags and also blankets. Let me know if you have a great idea. We only have about 15 more days until the first birthday rolls around. We like to keep the total gift around $15 (including the personalization which was about $5 per item).

Come back next week for a special post from my grandma - she doesn't know it yet but I am going to use an e-mail she sent to me as a guest post since we will just be returning from vacation.
